This course is intended for complete beginners in French and does not require any previous knowledge of the language. The course offers a broad introduction to the French language and culture of contemporary France. While participants will learn how to express themselves in French and understand the fundamentals of the language, they will also gain a deeper appreciation of the French society, its cultural heritage and its way of life. Separate practice groups to consolidate the work done in lectures will also be arranged separately on a regular basis.
Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide the participants with a foundation in the spoken and written language as well as to offer insights into the culture and society of France and other French-speaking areas. By the end of this course, students should be able to: Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type; Introduce oneself and others, ask and aswer questions about personnal details, place of residence, acquaintances etc. Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks sowly and clearly is prepared to help; Use the French language at a level of functional elementary proficiency consistent with level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL); Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type; Introduce oneself and others, ask and aswer questions about personnal details, place of residence, acquaintances etc. Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks sowly and clearly is prepared to help; Use the French language at a level of functional elementary proficiency consistent with level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
Learning outcomes
1) Apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout this course to communicate in French on selected topics. 2) Demonstrate an appreciation of the French language, culture and society. 3) Demonstrate the ability to use their own experience and knowledge to approach the French language, culture and society. 4) Use the French language at a level of beginner proficiency consistent with level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
