This course is a continuation of French I.1 and continues to build on the previous work. Participants will consolidate and develp their knowledge in the four areas of competence (listening, speaking, reading and writing), with a particular emphasis on communication skills in contextual situations. In this process, participants will also get progressively acquainted with French and Francophone societies and cultures. As in French I.1, seperate practice groups will be arranged to complement the lectures.

Objectives

The objective of this course is to ensure that the students achieve a substantial level of receptive competence and active proficiency in French. The course pays particular attention to the ability to successfully read and analyze texts of increasing; express and articulate thoughts, feelings and opinions in both sopken and written French; listen and comprehend oral texts of various sources and diificulty; interact with others at an appropriate level of french; reflect on socio-cultural aspects of France and on global questions; discuss issues across cultures and societies, both in a critical and in a comparative fashion. By the end of this course, students should be able to: Apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout this course to communicate on selected topics and collaborate in French; Understand and discuss important aspects of the French language, culture and society; Use the insight gained through listening, discussing, reading and writing about the topics covered to appreciate differences and commonalities between French culture and their own; Use the French language at a level of functional elementary proficiency consistent with level A1+/A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL); The objective of this course is to ensure that the students achieve a substantial level of receptive competence and active proficiency in French.
